Cordierite (mineralogy) is a magnesium cyclosilicate. Iron is almost always present and a solid solution exists between Mg-rich cordierite and Fe-rich sekaninaite )2Al,Mg O A high-temperature polymorph, which is isostructural and has a random distribution of Al in the (Si 18 rings.
